On Sunday, January 1st 1995, four Siberian Husky enthusiasts met at a private home in Northgate, Brisbane with an idea. From that idea the Northern Exposure Gig Racing Club Inc. was formed for the purpose of running dogs in the state forests around Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. In the July of the same year the first running of the NEGRC Classic was held in Beerburrum state forest; two heats held over one day for the one and two dog classes only. 1996 saw the Classic move to its present venue of Noosa North Shore Retreat and it was also the year that Trail made its first appearance in members' mailboxes. It was not until 1997 that trails were opened up for use by club members at two sites around Toowoomba, Pechey and Geham. 1997 also saw the Classic evolve into a three-day event, including a night heat and a novice class. The Northern Exposure Gig Racing Club Inc acknowledges Daryl and Sue Morris and Michael and Tracy Quinn as the founding members and inspiration behind the club and the start of Sled Dog Racing in Queensland. |
