Gig: In Australia, a gig is typically a three wheeled chariot (also commonly known as a rig) used for running sled dogs. It can also refer to a two wheeled scooter, which is used for running smaller teams of sled dogs (one or two dogs). Gig Racing: Sled Dog Racing Australian Style. To race around a prescribed track while being towed by your dog via a dog harness and tugline. Each team is released from the start chute at a defined start interval (typically 30sec spacing between each team) and is timed individually (Time Trial Method). The team must navigate the track by following the colour coded signs and giving voice commands to the lead dog as to when to turn, when to slowdown for hazards (or being overtaken by faster teams), and when to accelerate for overtaking slower teams. Each team is obliged to conduct itself in a polite manner, while being aware of the [Race Rules] that guide each competitor's conduct.
