The Northern Exposure Gig Racing Club Inc. “Kick Start” Program is a flexible program designed to grow with the juniors participating in it and teach them about sled dog care on a level that they can understand. It will be comprised of several ‘modules’, and will have the flexibility to add or delete these modules depending on the needs and requirements of the junior mushers at the time. One module is the Mini-Musher Point Score Race. It is hoped that in time a Junior Committee will be formed, involving parents, and juniors especialy to continue the aims of the NEGRC Inc. Magagement Committee 2002 who first kick started the program. Objectivies of the “Kick Start” Program To teach young mushers the responsibility of dog ownership and care on a level they can understand. To teach young mushers how to compete in a safe and supportive environment. To provide a ‘postive experience’ which does not necessarily mean winning. To teach young mushers how to cope with the unpredictablity of the real world and how even the best laid plans can go out the window, when your sled dogs chooses to take another path just because it’s there or not! To encourage good sportsmanship amongst young mushers. “Kick Start” Kit Each junior musher will be entitled to a “Kick Start” kit which is a work in progress.
